At POP Business, our BAS preparation services start from $150 plus GST for Sole Traders and start from $200 to $400 plus GST for partnerships, trusts and companies.  This includes a review of the data provided by the client and preparation of the BAS.

In order for a BAS to be prepared, all transactions must be coded and reconciled. A BAS cannot be prepared if there are uncoded or unreconciled transactions in your bank or cloud accounting software.  In these cases, our normal bookkeeping fees starting at $150 plus GST for blocks of 100 transactions would apply, with any additional blocks of 100 transactions charged at $100 plus GST.

For Q1 (July, August and September) BAS lodgements are due on the 28th of October.

For Q2 (October, November and December) BAS lodgements are due on the 28th February.

For Q3 (January, February and March) BAS lodgements are due on the 28th of April.

For Q4 (April, May and June) BAS lodgements are due on the 28th of July.

Your reporting and payment cycle will be one of the following:

Quarterly – if your GST turnover is less than $20 million (unless the ATO has told you that you must report monthly).

Monthly – if your GST turnover is $20 million or more.

Annually – if you are voluntarily registered for GST and your GST turnover is under $75,000 ($150,000 for not-for-profit bodies).

If you are in a GST-refundable position, best to lodge shortly after the reporting period to get the credits.

If you are in a GST-payable position, best to lodge on the due date and delay payment until then.

Bookkeepers can lodge BAS for their clients, however, they will not be able to obtain lodgement extensions unless they are registered as a BAS agent or tax agent with the ATO.

Absolutely, but the same rule used for bookkeepers also applies. You can definitely lodge your BAS yourself but you will not be able to obtain the lodgement and payment due date extensions. In addition, if you have accounting software, you will need to ensure you have it connected with the ATO in order to lodge electronically. Otherwise, you may have to do so via the business portal with the ATO or lodge via paper.

A tax agent has authority to manage the income tax and GST on behalf of the client with the ATO whilst the BAS agent only has authority to lodge the BAS and handle the GST compliance with the ATO.
